Keep writing when the signal drops

Open the notes you need in advance, work on them in the basement or on the train, and let them sync when you are back online.

Serhii inspects warehouses and industrial buildings. Half of his work happens where the phone says “no service”: basements, workshops with metal walls, sites outside town. He used to write in a paper notebook and type it all up in the evening.

In October he drove to the warehouse on Pivdenna with the floor plan and the previous report already open in Kartoteq, from home.

In the basement, no signal

The plan opened. So did the previous report. Serhii walked through the basement with a tablet, ticked the checklist and photographed a crack in a load-bearing column that had not been in the last report.

Nothing went to the server, and nothing needed to. The note simply waited.

In the evening, nothing to retype

On the way out of the industrial estate the signal came back, and the note went up on its own. A colleague in the office saw the photo of the crack before Serhii got home. The evening stayed free.

What stays honest

Serhii did not need AI that day, and that is just as well: without a network it would not have answered. His own notes he writes anywhere. The model’s help he asks for where there is a connection.

Open what you will need before you leave

Offline work in Kartoteq happens in the browser. Notes you have opened stay on the device. Serhii, a building inspector, opens the notebook “Warehouse on Pivdenna”, the floor plan in PDF and the previous inspection report before he drives out.

Check the attachments separately: open the PDF and make sure it is displayed. Websites behind links will not open without a network. That is a normal limitation.

Write on site without a signal

There is no reception in the warehouse basement. Serhii opens Kartoteq in the browser and the notebook is there. He writes the note “Inspection, 14 October”, ticks the checked elements in the checklist and attaches a photo of a crack from his phone.

All of it is saved locally. An icon next to the note shows that changes are waiting to be sent to the server.

Do not clear the browser while changes are waiting

Unsynced changes live in the browser’s storage. If you clear that storage or work in a private window, they are gone. This matters, and we would rather say it plainly.

A simple habit helps: back online, open Kartoteq, wait for the sync. Usually it takes seconds.

Reconnect and check the sync

As soon as the internet is back, Serhii’s notes go to the server on their own. If a colleague edited the same note in the meantime, Kartoteq shows a conflict and both versions. Pick the right one or merge them by hand.

After the sync the note is visible to everyone the notebook is shared with. The photo of the crack can already be discussed in the comments.

AI waits for the connection

Notes, checklists and photos work without a network. Requests to AI need a connection: the model runs on a server. So Serhii asks for a summary of the inspection from the car, once the signal is back.

That is an honest split. Your own writing happens anywhere; AI joins in when there is a connection.
