Roadmap

Project files that AI can actually read

A site plan, a photo from the building site and an Excel estimate next to the notes, with AI able to use them as sources rather than only store them.

Taras supervises apartment renovations. For the flat on Sadova Street he has a PDF estimate from the plumber, forty photos of the walls and a floor plan from the client. The question he wants to ask is simple: does the estimate include moving the pipe that is visible in photo 17? Today he can store all of this in Kartoteq, but AI reads only the text, and the photo is just a file.

Most of what matters in a project is not written as text. It is a plan, a scan, a spreadsheet, a photo with a crack in it. Keeping these files is easy. Having AI understand them, and say honestly when it could not, is the hard part.

Files that count as sources

Taras will be able to ask his question in the plumbing section and get an answer that cites the page of the estimate and the photo it looked at. A spreadsheet row, a page of a PDF or a region of a plan will be a source like any note. If a scan could not be read, the answer will say so instead of guessing.

This comes after the AI notebook, because it needs the same source references. Before release we have to publish the list of supported formats and sizes and test recognition on real floor plans and bad scans, not only on clean documents.

What is in scope

Storing a file already works; this direction is about AI understanding what is inside it, and it comes after the AI notebook because it needs the same source references. The plan is that a question in a section can draw on a PDF, a photo of a sketch or a spreadsheet, and the answer points to the page or cell it came from; where a file could not be read, the answer will say so rather than guess. Before release we have to write down which formats and file sizes are supported and test recognition on real plans and scans, because a model that reads a contract well may still misread a floor plan.

Where it stands

This direction is in the plan but not in development yet. We will write here when work starts and when there is something to try. Until then there is no date, and we would rather say so than guess.

If this direction matters to you, tell us about the task behind it. A concrete situation changes what we build more than a vote for a feature does.
