A native app for the phone

Photograph the site, dictate a note and reread the brief in the car, with the notebook syncing when the connection returns.

Andriy is a site supervisor. At eleven in the morning he is standing on the second floor of a half-built house, looking at a crack above a window. He takes a photo, opens Kartoteq in the phone browser, finds the right notebook on the third try and attaches it. It works, but it took two minutes with gloves on and a dusty screen.

On site, the whole value of a note is in how fast you can make it. A browser tab is fine for reading at a desk. For a photo and three words at the top of a ladder, it is not fast enough.

Three taps from a crack to the notebook

Andriy will open the app, take the photo, say “crack above window, second floor” and drop it into the house’s notebook before he climbs down. When the connection is back the note syncs, and the engineer sees it next to the plan. Reading the brief in the car on the way to the next site is the other half of the job.

This is ahead because the browser already covers the basics and the AI notebook needs the team more right now; which platforms come first is not decided. Before release the app has to show plainly what is saved on the phone and what is still waiting for a connection, because a note that silently failed to sync is worse than no note.

What is in scope

Today Kartoteq runs in the phone’s browser and keeps working offline; the native client is ahead because the browser already covers the basics and the AI notebook needs the team more right now. The app is meant for quick capture: a photo, a voice note or a line of text dropped into the right notebook, plus comfortable reading of what the team wrote. Which platforms come first and when development starts have not been decided, and before release the app has to show clearly what is saved on the device and what still waits for a connection.

Where it stands

This direction is in the plan but not in development yet. We will write here when work starts and when there is something to try. Until then there is no date, and we would rather say so than guess.

If this direction matters to you, tell us about the task behind it. A concrete situation changes what we build more than a vote for a feature does.
